While hiking in Alaska’s Katmai National Park, this group of hikers had a terrifying yet exhilarating experience – a close encounter with a brown bear and her two cubs.

While brown bears can be dangerous, they rarely attack humans unless they feel threatened. This bear and her cubs can be seen calmly ambling along the beach taking little notice of the hiking group.

The most important thing to remember if you ever meet a bear in the wild is not to run. Instinctively, this will be your first reaction, but like a dog, a bear will chase you down and can move surprisingly quickly. Instead, make yourself as large as possible and in the rare event of an attack, play dead – the bear will stop attacking if they feel the threat is over.
