Tupac’s untimely death almost 20 years did nothing to his popularity which lives on, even to this day. It’s therefore unsurprising that Tupac memorabilia commands some serious cash. RR Auction, an auction house based in Boston that specialises in celebrity ephemera, is now selling his ‘96 Hummer H1.
Research reveals that Shakur bought the vehicle on 16 August 1996, just under a month before his death in Las Vegas. This isn’t the first time the car has been sold. In 2003 the Hummer was won at a raffle and then purchased in 2007 by Havenotz Entertainment owners Sardar Khan and Yaasmyn Fula.
Although Shakur only owned the 6.5-liter turbodiesel V8 vehicle for a short time, he modified it with plenty of upgrades including diamond-plate bumpers and a top-notch sound system. He also used it, often cruising through Los Angeles on summer nights after spending time in the studio.
RR Auction says: ‘Already a classic and coveted example of civilian off-road ingenuity, this modified vehicle is further elevated by its incredible musical affiliation and proximity to Shakur’s final days. An incredible piece of hip-hop history that evokes the invincible spirit of one of the rap game’s true lyrical giants.’
Accompanying the car is the license plate “YAKNPAK,” which honours both Shakur and Yaki ‘Prince’ Kadafi, another member of Outlawz who was killed just two months after Shakur.
Whether you’re a Tupac fan or not, most will agree this is a badass car. But it’s the celebrity provenance that increases the guide price to $100,000, so it will most likely be a diehard fan that snaps it up. Bidding opens on 12 May 2016 through to 19 May 2016.
