Airstreams are all the rage these days. The iconic 1930s silver streamlined caravans epitomise Americana and command top dollar from buyers who eagerly snap them up to use in pop ups, bars and street food vans.

Melbourne’s seen some pretty interesting developments over the last few years, but nothing like Notel, a new rooftop ‘hotel’ which uses these classic caravans as accommodation. The brainchild of entrepreneur James Fry, the project utilizes the roof of a multi-storey car park on trendy Flinders Lane to create an uber cool trailer park hotel

Each of the six trailers come complete with en suite bathroom, a private terrace built from palettes, an iPad loaded with goodies like Netflix and a funky retro interior designed by architects Edwards Moore. Don’t expect a concierge, room service or reception. Everything is booked online and your smartphone is used to access the trailer. To treat yourself, book the Airstream with Benefits which comes with a private Jacuzzi spa.
