This island has the most plastic trash per square mile in the entire world—but it wasn’t brought by humans

brought the trash to the island.

It was brought by the South Pacific Gyre—a series of ocean currents that sweeps plastic garbage (among other things) out of the ocean and onto islands and other land masses.
