If you’re planning a once in a lifetime holiday, the Caribbean is the top of a lot of people’s dream locations, and it’s not difficult to see why.

With glorious beaches, sunny skies and lots to see and do, they’re the perfect luxury summer getaway, but with so many destinations to choose from, it can be difficult to pin down exactly where to visit.

One of the lesser known Caribbean territories is the Turks & Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory made up of 40 small islands.

We’re going to take a look at five reasons to visit these beautiful islands for your next big trip away.

The Resorts

With such a strong tourism industry, the Turks & Caicos Islands are home to some beautiful and luxurious resorts.

The resorts in Turks & Caicos really do run the whole range though, from high-end luxury to more family friendly options.

On the other hand, there are adult only resorts if you’re after a bit of peace and quiet!

What’s more, the majority of the resorts are situated along the beautiful Grace Bay beach, such as the Beach House, and its sister resort, Alexandra Resort.

The Beaches

The islands are also home to some of the best beaches in the world, including the very best, according to TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice awards.

If you simply want to chill out on a sandy white beach with a cocktail then that’s fine, but the beach of Turks & Caicos have a whole other layer!

That’s because the gorgeous turquoise waters are teeming with marine life, from colourful fish to majestic turtles.

Plenty of activities

If you fancy a holiday with a little bit more adventure, then fear not, because Turks & Caicos have you covered!

The islands lend themselves perfectly to watersports such as windsurfing, but you can also try scuba diving or snorkelling or maybe even enjoy a round of golf at the renowned Provo Golf Club.

For something a bit different, visit the Caicos Conch Farm, the only commercial conch farm in the world, where you can learn about this unique creature and even taste one for yourself.

History and Culture

The islands have also got an interesting history, having been inhabited by Indian, French and Spanish settlers before becoming a British territory.

This gives the islands and a really multicultural flavour, and popular historical sites include various cotton plantations, the Grand Turk lighthouse and a couple of old US military bases.

Food & Drink

The mix of cultures has also contributed to the varied palette of the Turks & Caicos when it comes to food and drink.

On the one hand, the islands are home to a number of high-end gourmet restaurants, but you’ll also find an impressive selection of street food and traditional Caribbean cuisine.

In particular, we recommend Da Conch Shack, which has been named one of the best beach bars in the world, and serves up local specialities such as jerk chicken and of course conch, which is the national dish.
