The Ursrey family had no way of knowing what they’d be in for when they decided to have a family fun day at Panama City Beach in Florida in July 2017.
Roberta Ursrey heard her two sons screaming for help from the ocean. Without hesitation, she swam to the boys to save them but got caught in the same rip tide herself. Others quickly swam out to help and altogether, 10 people were in the life threatening tide.
“I honestly thought I was going to lose my family that day,” Ursrey said, via the News Herald.
With no lifeguard on duty, more bystanders decided they were going to help. Jessica and Derek Simmons were two of approximately 80 strangers who formed a chain brigade to reach and secure the family and others in the water.
“These people are not drowning today,” Jessica Simmons said. “It’s not happening. We’re going to get them out.”
Once everyone was safe on shore…
