Before we begin to analyse how Christmas is celebrated around the world, it’s worth taking a minute to look at our own traditions. The folks over at Love Home Swap have put together this list of strange Christmas traditions. In the Ukraine, you’ll find houses decorated with spiders and webs instead of tinsel and baubles, while in Catalonia the nativity scene includes a figure of a defecating man. In Portugal, empty places at the table are laid to remember lost loved ones and in the Swedish town of Gävle an enormous stray goat is built in the square, which is almost immediately burned down.
